Yeggkees
“Yankees.” They said it nicely—that we took it back… Either way, one stated. Stereotyped.

How a word can…
say.
label.
Gives a meaning.
Then somebody else says,
“Nah, we’ll take that.”
The word gets another life.
Yankee.
Yeggkees.
Same sound?
Same meaning?
Depends on who’s saying it.
Words are …
descriptions,
insults,
identities,
nicknames,
or something you put on a hat
and proudly walk around in.
One stated.
One stereotyped.
One reclaimed.
That’s the thing about stereotypes.
Nice and neat.
A name.
Yeggkees…
crooked.
familiar.
ours.
They said it nicely.
We heard it differently.
Either way, one stated.
Stereotyped.
