I’ve seen the sun at night… Their together but separate. It’s complicated.

I didn’t mean it like a riddle. It’s just something I’ve noticed—how two things can share the same sky and still feel miles apart.

The city teaches you that early. You can be shoulder-to-shoulder on a packed train and still feel alone. You can hear a hundred voices outside your window and not feel spoken to. You can be in the middle of everything and still be missing the one thing you actually need: connection that’s real.

I’ve seen the sun at night.

Not literally—more like that feeling when the day is over but your mind is still bright, still running, still refusing to clock out. Streetlights hit the pavement like a second sunrise. Store signs glow. Headlights sweep across faces. Somebody’s music leaks through a car window and turns the block into a moving soundtrack. It looks like life is wide awake. Underneath that light, people are carrying their own weather.

I’ve watched couples walk together without touching. Friends laugh while their eyes stay somewhere else. Families sit at the same table with silence between them like an extra chair. Everybody present. Everybody separate. Everybody trying to act like it’s normal. Maybe it is normal. Maybe that’s the complicated part.

Togetherness isn’t just proximity. It’s not being in the same room, the same borough, the same timeline. Togetherness is attention. It’s listening without waiting to speak. It’s checking on somebody even when you’re tired. It’s saying “I’m here” and meaning it with your actions, not just your mouth.

Hip Hop always understood that. A cypher is togetherness. A beat is togetherness. Even a sample is togetherness—two eras touching without fully becoming one thing. Separate pieces, one sound. Complicated, but it works.

That’s what I want more of: the kind of connection that doesn’t pretend. The kind that admits when it’s messy. The kind that doesn’t disappear when the mood changes.

Together, but separate. It’s complicated.
