Not necessarily yesterday,

then today.

Yesterday

and today

were always happening

at the same time.

Different dwellings.

Different ways of dwelling.

One group gathering beneath the trees.

Another naming the streets

Another building walls…

Meanwhile someone is still hunting,

still gathering,

still moving with the seasons.

And inside the walls,

someone is still trying to find parking.

The progress has never been

one straight line.

It’s more like a neighborhood—

different houses,

different habits,

different cultures

sharing the same block.

Since us…

we’ve been living

alongside one another,

building,

gathering,

dwelling,

and calling it civilization.

Same sun.

Same soil.
