Ourselves

Alone we shine… Together elucidate.

Talking to myself.

Quite often, actually.

Not because I’m lonely.

I’m trying to schedule a meeting.

One version of me has ideas.

Another has questions.

A third keeps interrupting.

None of them can agree on lunch.

It’s exhausting.

Every now and then we catch myself saying,

“That’s a good point.”

Then realize…

We were agreeing with me.

At least somebody gets it.

People say talking to yourself is strange.

Disagree???

Who else is going to explain what you meant five minutes ago?

Sometimes I need expert advice.

Conveniently, I’m available.

The only problem is that “Past Me” leaves work for “Future Me.”

Future Me has filed several complaints.

Present Me is pretending not to know anything about it.

We’re working through it.

Slowly.

Maybe that’s what being ourselves really means.

Not becoming one perfect person.

Just learning how all the different parts of us can get along.

The dreamer.

The critic.

The comedian.

The worrier.

The optimist.

They all live here.

Some days they argue.

Some days they laugh.

Some days…

They actually figure something out.

Alone we shine.

Together…

We finally understand what we were trying to say in the first place.
