Oddly even in joy, pain, hurry up and wait…
One does create.

That’s the part nobody tells you when they talk about “the journey.” They make it sound clean, like you pick a direction and life clears a path. But most days don’t move like that. Most days are a mix. A blessing and a burden in the same hour. A win that still comes with weight. A laugh that doesn’t erase what happened earlier.
I’ve had days where everything looked good on paper—sun out, plans in motion, people around me—and still, something in my chest felt tight. Like joy was present, but it wasn’t alone. Pain was there too, sitting quietly in the corner, not asking for attention but refusing to leave. Then there’s that other feeling: hurry up and wait.
The city is built on it. You rush to get somewhere, then stand still. You grind for a chance, then get told “not yet.” You put your heart into something, then watch the world scroll past it like it never happened. It can make you question your timing, your talent, your purpose.
Creation doesn’t only come from peace. Sometimes it comes from pressure. Sometimes it comes from the need to make sense of what doesn’t make sense. Sometimes it’s the only way to stay honest when everything around you is telling you to perform.
Hip Hop was born from that exact contradiction. Joy and pain. Celebration and survival. Loud music over hard days. A party that’s also a protest. A beat that says, “We’re still here.” That’s creation: taking what’s heavy and turning it into something you can carry.
I think about all the times I didn’t feel ready, but I made something anyway. A line. A sketch. A page. A small piece of proof that I’m not stuck, even when life feels stuck. Proof that I can move without permission. Proof that imagination still works, even when the schedule doesn’t.
Waiting doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Sometimes the waiting is where the roots grow. Sometimes the delay is where the vision gets sharper. Sometimes the quiet is where you hear what you actually think.
Oddly, even in joy—pain, hurry up and wait… one does create.
